A light was lost

A couple of weeks ago we suddenly had to bid goodbye to Odd, a friend and fellow creator anda man deeply missed by his family. He showed us the beauty of the stark Nordic climate and the warmth of the unending sea. Through his muscal expression we also discovered within ourselves an inner ocean of infinite size.

Back in 2013 gterma looked into a possible split-album release between Havdis and Urenga. In the end this project was not continued but some conceptual material survived. This unfinished cut is an early demo of Andras playing his best Havdis impression and it is presented here as tribute to a friend lost.

October Tide

October is generally a rather dark month over here, but this year has seen somewhat milder weather and some spectacular sunsets. Today the evening sky was a deep blue ocean full of little golden islets spreading in wavy patterns across the entire sky. I found myself almost falling upwards into the heavens, losing myself in the ocean above.

Released today are two albums that also gracefully drift between the depths of the oceans and the heavens.

Kenneth Werner returns to gterma with an album inspired by the ocean that surrounds his home island of Bornholm. During our stay we will experience the passing of the seasons in the southern Baltic Sea. Twelve deep tracks hovering in the borderlands between dubtechno and ambient, the zone which we find As If returning to again and again. Album in jewel case with 16-page booklet.

http://gterma041to060.blogspot.se/p/gterma046-urenga-pacific-depths.html [gterma046] : Urenga - Pacific Depths (out now)

The last time we encountered Urenga we retraced a confused traveller's journey among the distant islands of the West Pacific, searching for the fabled continent of Mu. On Pacifc Depths, we allow ourselves to catch our breaths and sink our tired souls into the deep blue abyss that is the lost history of Urenga itself. The album is made up of a deep ambient current collected from several digital releases that occurred between 2011 and 2013. Album in jewel case with 16-page booklet.

The long summernights just got a bit darker...

We're halfway through summer here in the northern hemisphere, the city bathes in the golden colours of yet another tranquil evening. Yet somehow we all know the shift has taken place, the days are again doomed to grow shorter and shorter as we once again begin the slow rush toward the dark season. Illustrating this point finely are the brand new albums we have available tonight. Music on the edge between light and darkness, between fantasy and reality, between madness and sanity. The journey continues.

[gterma036] : Urenga - Mu (The Lost Continent) (out now)

The world's oceans still jealously guard their many secrets from the prying eyes of our fledgling 21st century civilization. Brave minds remain convinced that unseen lands dwell in the cold depths of the deep waters. A few claim to have visited these places in their dreams. We were amazed to discover a portion of a dusty traveller's journal, telling of one travellers tireless pursuit in heeding the ocean's calling. We invite you to follow in the wake of this dreamlike journey.

http://gterma021to040.blogspot.se/p/gterma040-phra-rahu.html
[gterma040] : V/A - Phra Rahu (out now)

A long time coming, we have worked zealously to present this offering to the dark entity known as Rahu. A vast demigod with a strong worldly influence, Rahu's might is perhaps best illustrated in his devouring of the sun, causing the Earth to sit in his dark shadow. We have assembled this dark mantra from material both new and old, creating a deep tribute featuring several of the profile artists of gterma. Massive double album in a jewel case with 16-page booklet.

[gterma041] : Gleisberg & Grassow - Ad Lucem (out now)

Veterans Rüdiger Gleisberg and Mathias Grassow, who have previously worked together in constellations such as KarmaCosmic and Nostalgia (together with Carsten Agthe), have come together again to create Ad Lucem, an album dedicated to the light and the hope for a better tomorrow. Six deep pieces carefully balancing on a slight penumbra between light and darkness. Comes in a jewel case with 16-page booklet.

Report: Urenga featured on newly created Deep Electronic Podcast

http://soundcloud.com/deep_electronic/deep-electronics-podcast
Our very own posterchild Andras -familiar to gterma listeners from the Indo and Urenga projects- has recently put together a selection of material, past and present, from his deep and dubby Urenga project. His music is being featured on the newly created Deep Electronic Podcast and I can't think of a better way to start it of. I always lose myself in Andras' music and you can be sure to see more of his works on the label in the not so distant future. You can tune in by following this link. Report: New EP by As If on Biorecordings

Our Danish friend Kenneth has been busy lately, and out a few days ago is a new digital EP published on the Italian Biorecordings label. The release features both delicate and lush ambience as well as the more pulsating dubtech-sound, both which were found on last year's "Faraway Trees..." album. The digital release is available through some digital distributors such as Beatport and Juno. If you are considering a purchase, remember to keep an eye on the various file formats offered on each platform. AS IF - Lines From The Past Ep by Biorecordings

And since we are on the topic of Biorecordings... the label has several interesting artists in its catalogue, mostly sitting somewhere in the dubtech/ambient range. It feels only natural to remind Urenga fans to check out Andras' compilation appearance "Warming Ocean" on the label's first compilation EP released in 2011. If you enjoyed the sound on "After Rain" this should be right up your alley as well; the hypnotic, dreamy draw of the ocean. I can't help but feel that the new remix EP from Canadian Stasis Recordings has a little something for everyone, several competent remixers turn the title track into very different expressions. And of course people who follow Urenga's and Arjen's work will be very satisfied with this nifty little EP. You will find it available on bandcamp here.

The five track "Floating Islands" mini-album by Urenga is a gterma favourite and was mentioned previously here on the blog when it was released in March. Now Stasis Recordings are following up with a remix EP which sees two alternate takes each on three of the album tracks, with artists such as Sascha Barts, Off Land  and David Roiseux. Two bonus mixes are also added by label owner Sanderson Dear. Available as digital only via the label's bandcamp page.

Postcards from the beyond

Today gterma happily announces three projects carried over from last year, where each album represents a world of its own. From the harsh but beautiful polar ambience of Havids, via the lush rainforest of a long forgotten archipelago in the Pacific, to the dark and ancestral inner world of Undara; a true journey of the mind awaits the curious. Visit the release pages by clicking the links below for samples and more details.

[gterma011] : Havdis - The Hidden Islands (out now)

Norwegian Havdis creates achingly beautiful aural paintings of a coastal world with streaks of romanticism and melancholy, a cold and unforgiving harsh environment of stark beauty and mystery for you to explore. Journey into the foggy waters and find a hidden archipelago to spellbind your soul. The album comes in a jewelcase with a 12-page booklet.

[gterma012] : Urenga - After Rain (out now)

The Urenga project draws its inspiration from nature and projects an aural sensation of a living, breathing world somewhere in the borderlands between dub techno and ambient. After the rain stops falling and the storm clouds withdraw beyond the horizon, the tide once again rolls in like a wave of evening colour glow. Hypnotizing and captivating music to spend half-awake in your bed through the thick tropical night. Comes in a jewelcase with a 12-page booklet.

[gterma014] : Undara - Traveller (out now)

The Undara project is a loose constellation of musicians and artists hailing from Portugal. Setting an interdisciplinary path through musical arcanum and artistic obscurity their journey of discovery leads into a dark and unknown wilderness, tripping over smoldering rocks and stumbling over the very roots of mankind's origin. Hear the distant call of the untamed lands and feel the beckoning of long forgotten places to which mankind rarely chooses to venture. Comes in a jewelcase with a 8-page booklet.

Report: "Floating Island" mini-album out now on Stasis Recordings

With a new album "After Rain" just around the corner, gterma profile Urenga (a.k.a. Indo) has just released a new mini-album on the Canadian digital label Stasis Recordings. A bubbly laid back ambient/dub techno hybrid afloat somewhere on a tide that has carried it far away from any recognizable land. Hypnotic soundscapes from our much talented Hungarian friend. You can listen to harmonious and trippy previews on the release's bandcamp page. Stay tuned for more news about the upcoming full length album on gterma.

Turning our backs on mother sun...

Yes, it is that time of year again, when for some bizarre and misanthropic reason our host terra refuses to turn its axis toward the sun, thus sending those of us in the northern hemisphere into the season of darkness and gloom. Our trees zip up and the smarter birds head for Africa while the rest of us don darker and thicker fabrics in an effort to keep out the cold. The tertöns up north bid the warm season a hearty farewell with the recent track "Autumn" presented by Urenga, the dub-techno alias of our trusted Hungarian compatriot Indo.
